One of the things i like to do is go see what people want to get rid of - the great tradition - the Garage Sale!
A few weeks ago we wandered in to a neighborhood that was having a community sale…. almost every house in the neighborhood was had stuff out for sale….
And I stumbled upon these:

$40 and I walked away with both. They have a little rust, but nothing i can’t take off with a bit of polishing. Both work great, and both were tools i was planning on buying anyway.
But my real deal came this past Saturday. I took my daughter to a friend’s birthday party. While all the kids were having fun in the pool, the home-owner mentioned that he had the race on in the garage. Nascar?
So I wandered into his garage and noticed some powertools sitting there… Up front was a planer. I casually mentioned that was going to be the next thing I purchased, and he says “Take that one”. Huh? Turns out it was his dad’s stuff that was now just in the way at his mom’s house. he had his own, and wanted it to go to someone who would get some use out of it.
So here it sits:

You can’t pass up free tools!
So for $40, i ended up with a bunch of new Delta toys. You can’t beat that!
I start a page devoted to things I build… and then don’t build anything….
It’s coming… I need to build all kinds of stuff… Now… the motivation needs to catch up.
I have noticed a bunch of hits are coming here looking for a scrapbook desk .
I have more pics of the desk I built in this Flickr photoset
Oh my….
I have a bunch of things I want to build. But- there is something standing in the way.
THE MESS.
The garage is thrashed. It’s full of old junk, parts of things half built, and all kinds of things we have no idea what to do with. And the big monster PROCRASTINATION is standing in my way….
So one of these days, I’ll fight the monster and clean the garage out. Then I can get to my tools and actually build something. I need that day to hurry…..
These metal chairs I’ve had for years. They were white and showing their age pretty badly. Saturday, I decided it was time to paint them- i think they turned out quite nicely!
I showed pictures of the benches I had built to a co-worker of mine. She had been looking for something similiar for her front entryway, and asked if I could build her one. She showed me what she wanted, and we agreed on a price (so far this has been my only paid job). This one was much harder than my previous benches. With no paint to cover up the wood, I was much more careful about my sanding- I did a LOT of sanding! And I was very critical of my work. Since i was getting paid, I wanted to make sure everything was just right.
She loves it! It’s the first thing you see when you walk into her house. Not too bad if I say so myself….

After giving benches to my dad and my sister, I decided my mom could use one too. So i found plans for a Santa bench that I though would suit her perfectly….

After building the snowman bench, I was feeling pretty confident. So I found plans for this one and decided that my siser would love it. I gave it to her for her birthday.
